The Linnaean way...to identify and to learn
Carl Linnaeus or Carl von Linné, often called the Father of Taxonomy
was in the second decade of the 18th century a pupil of Växjö Cathedral School (see photo). Linné's system of classification and naming of things such as animals and plants in groups according to their similarities and differences is today a little modified but still in wide use. His ideas have influenced generations of students during and after his own lifetime.
In the year of 2007 schools and universities all over the World will give attention to the 300 anniversary of Linnaeus' birth. Students and schools are invited to do their share to the celebrations by doing this project "The Linnaean way...to identify and to learn".
The purpose of the project is not to copy the work of Linnaeus but to try to make a simple guide to a small quantity of biological matter. A few cats, some flowers, fruits, insects, leaves, lichens, vegetables, winter buds etc. See an example below.
The guide should be written in a way that it will help other students to easy identify the matter you have chosen and then in the extension recognize the matter and learn.
Guides can be reported to the web anytime and they are published immediately afterwards.
