Design....of a guide to some leaves

Collect 10-15 leaves and spread  them out on a white sheet. Examin and compare them. Describe characteristics and differences. Start making a guide made up of different statements or intermingled questions and answers (se below). The first statement should be quite broad and easy to divide the leaf-samples into two different categories. This is acceptable because the guide is used only for identification - not classification. The next set of statements should be narrower and proceeding through them you finally come to the name of the sample. The guide should be accompanied by descriptions and if possible drawings - or in exceptional cases by photos.

Below there is an example of how a guide could be started:

1. The leaf is..    (or: What colour is the leaf? )

green g go on to No. 2
                     not green
g go on to No. 17

2. The leaf is..
                     single
g go on to No. 3
                     made up of smaller leaves
g go on to No. 6

3. The leaf is..
                     lobed
g go on to No. 4

unlobed g go on to No. 13

4. The leaf is..

pinnately lobedg go on to No. 5

palmately lobed g go on to No. 8

5. The leaf has..
                     rounded lobes
g it's an oak see figure 'next page'

not rounded lobes g go on to No. 13

6. The leaf is..
                     deeply divided
g go on to No. 7

not deeply divided g go on to No. 8

...to be continued.
